RED OR BLUE RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS (REFLECTORS)
Raised pavement markers (reflectors mounted on or in the pavement) are usually either white (to supplement white lines) or yellow (to supplement yellow lines). RED and BLUE are special color raised reflectors used to communicate special messages. RED raised reflectors on the pavement tell drivers not to enter a one-way roadway or ramp because they would be going in the wrong direction. [MUTCD Section 3A.04] BLUE raised reflectors on the pavement mark locations of fire hydrants adjacent to the road, for quicker recognition by emergency service providers. [MUTCD Section 3A.04 and MUTCD Section 3B.11]
This set of red raised reflectors is placed in an arrow shaped pattern and indicates "wrong way" on a one-way ramp.
The red raised reflectors on the roadway to the left of the median in this photo indicate "wrong way" travel on that side of the median.
This example shows blue raised reflectors to indicate that a fire hydrant is alongside the road at this location.
