Mr. Jeff L. Johnson
Public Works Director/City Engineer
The City of Owatonna
540 West Hills Circle
Owatonna, MN 55060-4794

Dear Mr. Johnson:

Thank you for your November 15 letter to the Office of Transportation Operations, Federal Highway Administration. In your letter, you submitted a Request to Experiment with a "Stop for Pedestrians in Crosswalk" sign at several locations in the downtown area of Owatonna. You noted that the procedure for the Request was obtained from Mr. Gary Thompson, the Minnesota State Traffic Engineer.

As you may be aware, Mr. Thompson has been granted approval to experiment with the signs in the city of Little Falls, Minnesota. We will grant Owatonna approval to experiment providing you coordinate with the Little Falls experimentation, and provide similar experimental data that Little Falls is providing in their experimentation. We require that you provide specific start and finish dates for your experiment, and that you provide semiannual progress reports for the duration of the experiment. The information may be faxed to Mr. Harold Lunenfeld at 202-366-3225.

For reference purposes, we have assigned your request the following official experimentation number and title: "II-429(E)--Mobil Supplemental Crosswalk Identification Device." Please refer to this number in future correspondence.

If you have any question while preparing your revised request to experiment, please call Mr. Harold Lunenfeld at 202-366-6598.

Sincerely yours,

Shelley J. Row, P.E.
Director, Office of Transportation Operations
