Request to Experiment 2-513(E)-Advanced Warning of Stopped Traffic Sign.

Dear Mr. Brinkmeyer:

Thank you for your March 12 letter requesting permission to experiment with a non-standard sign application for TxDOT/TTI research project 0-4413, Advanced Warning of Stopped Traffic Your research project has been assigned an official Request to Experiment number of 2-513(E)-Advanced Warning of Stopped Traffic Sign.

Your request has been reviewed and found to be consistent with the guidelines detailed in Section 1A.10 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Your request to experiment with the Advanced Warning of Stopped Traffic Sign is approved for the application of a new symbol sign depicting stopped traffic in a queue and word message signs with text of WATCH FOR STOPPED TRAFFIC and AHEAD and their use dynamically based upon activation from detector information. Please refer to this number in future correspondence. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) does ask that you clarify your request to experiment in regard to the information detailed in the 2nd paragraph of the 2nd page as to a colored border on an R2-1 sign as to how this information applies to the Advanced Warning of Stopped Traffic sign. We look forward to receiving notifications of implementation dates and to your semiannual progress reports and final report.
