Mr. John H. Perkins
Traffic Operations Engineer Vermont Agency of Transportation National Life Building, Drawer 33 Montpelier, VT 05633-5001

Dear Mr. Perkins:

Thank you for your September 13 letter to Mr. Scott Wainwright of our staff as a follow-up to your original July 12 request to experiment with a pattern of transverse markings for speed reduction on certain sections of Vermont Route 30 (request number 3-1 68(EX". You indicated that certain changes would be made to the signing that accompanies the proposed markings and the testing/evaluation protocol to address the issues and concerns I stated in my August 26 letter to you.

We have reviewed your proposed changes to your experimentation and your evaluation plan, and we agree with them. We are now confident that the experimentation will produce meaningful results. Your experimentation request, as revised, is approved for a period not to exceed 3 years.

We look forward to receiving your semiannual progress reports and final report. If there are any further questions on this matter, please contact Mr. Wainwright at 202-366-0857 or email scott.wainwright@fhwa.dot.gov. We appreciate your interest in traffic safety and hope that your experimentation is successful.

Sincerely yours,

Regina S. McElroy
