Dear Mr. Powell:

Thank you for your August 22 letter to the Office of Transportation Operations (HOTO-1). In your letter, you requested approval to experiment with Accessible Pedestrian Signals.

We have reviewed your documents "Request for Permission to Experiment with Accessible Pedestrian Signals" dated August 22 in support of your Request to Experimentation. Your request to experiment is approved. You indicated that you plan to install the devices by October 30 and continue the project until the end of April 2002. Note that the Evaluation Procedure should provide for close monitoring of the experimentation, especially in the early stages of the field implementation.

For reference purposes, we have assigned your request the following official experimentation number and title: "IV-160 (E) -Accessible Pedestrian Signals." Please refer to this number in future correspondence.

If you have any questions please call Mr. Harold Lunenfeld at 202-366-6598.

Sincerely yours,

Shelley J. Row, P.E.
Director, Office of Transportation Operations
