Dear Ms. Gromala:

Thank you for your September 25 letter to Ms. Louis Ward of the Office of Transportation Operations (HOTO-1), Federal Highway Administration. In your letter, you transmitted your Flashing Crosswalk Data Collection Plan for "In-Roadway Warning Lights at Crosswalks." This is in response to our letter of February 22 requesting additional formation.

We have reviewed your "Flashing Crosswalk Data Collection Plan for In-Roadway Warning Lights at Crosswalks." Your Request to Experiment is approved. We ask that you consider experimenting with an additional location using only raised yellow pavement markers. Please fax the information on including a passive system using raised pavement markers to Mr. Harold Lunenfeld at 202-366-3225.

For reference purposes, we have assigned your request the following official experimentation number and title: "IV-173 (E) In-Roadway Warning Lights at Crosswalks." Please refer to this number in future correspondence.

If you have any questions, please call Mr. Harold Lunenfeld at 202-366-6598.

Sincerely yours,

Shelley J. Row, P.E.
Director, Office of Transportation Operations
