Re: Approval to Install Pedestrian Countdown Signal Heads

The City of Beaverton proposes to install pedestrian countdown signal heads at seven existing signalized intersections. The locations were selected because of their wide crossings and substantial pedestrian traffic. The locations are:

  • Allen Blvd. at Hall Blvd.
  • Hall Blvd. at Greenway
  • Cedar Hills Blvd. at Jenkins Road
  • Murray Blvd. at Allen Blvd.
  • Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway at Griffith Drive
  • Farmington Road at Hall Blvd.
  • Canyon Road at 117th/Broadway

    • Since the MUTCD Millennium Edition does not provide for the option of using pedestrian countdown signal heads, I am seeking your approval for these installations as experimental. We are willing to complete an evaluation to assess user response. Should the pending revisions to the MUTCD Millennium Edition include the option to install pedestrian countdown signal heads, we will limit the scope of our evaluation.
