Re: Approval to Install Pedestrian Countdown Signal Heads

The City of Beaverton proposes to install pedestrian countdown signal heads as part of a new traffic signal installation at the intersection of Cedar Hills Boulevard and Fairfield Street.

Since the MUTCD Millennium Edition does not provide for the option of using pedestrian countdown signal heads, I am seeking your approval for the installation as experimental. We are willing to complete an evaluation to assess user response. Should the pending revisions to the MUTCD Millennium Edition include the option to install pedestrian countdown signal heads, we will limit the scope of our evaluation.

Please let me know if you need more information to consider this request.

Sincerely,
/s/
Randall R. Wooley, PE
City Traffic Engineer
