Dear Mr. Vieth:

Thank you for your April 10 letter to the Office of Transportation Operations concerning your request to experiment with the RC Flagman.

We approve your request to experiment with the RC Flagman. We understand this experiment could last until November of 2003. Therefore, the experiment is approved through the end of December 2003. Please note that we are requesting a progress report in the late July/August time frame and a copy of the final results within 3 months following completion of the experiment. Please submit these reports to: Federal Highway Administration, Office of Transportation Operations, 400 Seventh Street SW., HOTO-1, Washington, DC 20590. Attention Mr. Ernest Huckaby

For your information, several other States are also conducting experimentation with the RC Flagman as an automated flagger this year . We look forward to the results of your experimentation. The Federal Highway Administration is always encouraged by States that experiment with a new traffic control device/operation. We always support ideas that have the potential to improve the mobility and safety of our roads for highway workers and road users. If you have any questions, please call Mr. Pete Rusch at 608-829-7529. Please note that we have assigned your request the following official experimentation number and title: "6-192(E)— Automated Flagger." Please refer to this number in future correspondence.

Sincerely yours,
/s/ Shelley Row
