Dear Ms. Rawson:
Thank you for your letter of May 9 transmitting a request to experiment with the use of symbolic versions of the WAIT ON STOP (R1-7) and the GO ON SLOW (R1-8) signs that are used with STOP/SLOW Automated Flagger Assistance Devices, and for your May 19 letter amending the proposed designs of the symbolic signs.
We reviewed your May 9 request and the May 19 supplemental materials that show the revised designs with larger symbols. Your request to experiment with the redesigned signs is approved.
We look forward to receiving your semiannual progress reports and your final evaluation report at the end of the study period.
For recordkeeping purposes, we have assigned the following official experiment number and title: "6(09)-8 (E) – Symbolic Signs for Automated Flagger Assistance Devices — TX DOT." Please refer to this number in any future correspondence regarding this experiment.
