Dear Mr. Soffian:

Thank you for your January 28 letter requesting approval to experiment with two yellow-green (YG) colored pavement markings for school crosswalks at selected locations in New York City. We also received your April 8 letter submitting, upon our request, additional information that modifies your original experimentation plan.

We have reviewed your original request together with the modifications, and hereby approve your request for an experimentation period of 24 months from Fall 2005 to Fall 2007. We look forward to receiving your experimentation evaluation results. The results would help us to determine whether to include the YG pavement marking in a future edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

For reference purposes, we have assigned your request the following official experimentation number and title: "7-69(E)-YG Pavement Markings for School Crosswalks-NYC." Please refer to this number in future correspondence. We appreciate your interest and effort in improving conditions for pedestrians in school zones, and if we can be of further assistance, please contact Ms. Guan Xu at 202-366-5892.

Sincerely yours,

Regina S. McElroy
Director, Office of Transportation Operations
