RE: Experimental Bicycle Signal Head Application
Walnut Complete Streets and Bike Lane Project
STA-SR43-12.64, GP 1153, PID 91592

Dear Ms. Bowden:

Per our various discussions and e-mails, please find enclosed Canton's application for use of experimental bicycle signal heads. We believe that the use of this signal head on this contra-flow bicycle lane is critical to help avoid confusion between cyclists and vehicles. Upon completion, this project to my knowledge will be the first contra-flow lane in the state. This signal is part of Canton's first attempt to install on-road bike lanes and is part of a larger bike-way master plan to construct "complete streets" projects and thereby make Canton a more "livable community." The preliminary plans for the entire project are also enclosed for your reference.

It is our understanding that ODOT, on our behalf, will review this application and forward it to FHWA for review and approval. Therefore, I am requesting that you facilitate this on our behalf. Thank you for your assistance with this exciting project and my request.

Respectfully,

Daniel J. Moeglin, PE
