Figure 6H-43. Partial Exit Ramp Closure (TA-43)

The figure illustrates an example of a partial exit ramp closure. A legend under the figure states that this is Typical Application 43. A note states "See Tables 6H-2 and 6H-3 for the meaning of the symbols and/or letter codes used in this figure."

This figure shows a vertical two-lane roadway. Upward-pointing black arrows in both lanes denote the direction of traffic. The two lanes are shown separated by a broken white line. A shoulder is shown to the left of the left lane separated by a solid yellow line. A shoulder is shown to the right of the right lane separated by a solid white line.

Near the bottom of the figure, a deceleration lane is shown tapering to the right of the right lane, leading to a right exit ramp. The deceleration lane is shown running parallel to the right lane and separated from it by a solid white line. At the point where the deceleration lane begins, a black inverted "T" is shown denoting a sign to the right of the deceleration lane shoulder. The sign is shown as a diamond-shaped orange sign with a black border and the words "ROAD WORK XX FT" in black and is shown above a square orange supplemental plaque with a black border and the words "ON RAMP." Beyond this sign to the right of the shoulder, another sign is shown at a dimensioned distance B. This sign is shown as a diamond-shaped orange sign with a black border and the words "RAMP NARROWS" in black above a square orange supplemental plaque with a black border and the words "XX MPH" in black. At a dimensioned distance A, a series of orange squares denoting channelizing devices is shown beginning just to the left of the solid white line between the deceleration lane and the shoulder.

The deceleration lane then is shown curving to the right into the exit ramp. A solid yellow line is shown on the left edge of the exit ramp. The channelizing devices are shown tapering from the right edge of the lane to the center of the lane and passing to the left of a vertical rectangle with diagonal black and white lines, denoting a work space. The work space is shown as a dimensioned distance of 10 ft MIN. from the left edge of the exit ramp. Channelizing devices are shown continuing just beyond the work space. At a dimensioned distance of 500 ft beyond the last channelizing device, a sign is shown outside the right shoulder. The sign is shown as a horizontal rectangular orange sign with a black border and the words "END ROAD WORK" in black.
