Figure 2B-21. Example of Regulatory and Warning Signs for a Mini-Roundabout

This figure illustrates an example of regulatory and warning signs for a mini-roundabout.

Notes state: (1) Signs shown for only one leg. (2) See Section 2D.38 for guide signs at roundabouts. (3) See Chapter 3C for markings at roundabouts.

The figure shows a central island surrounded by a circular roadway. The island is shown composed of a contrasting pavement texture.

Four roadways enter the roundabout from the north, south, east, and west. Narrow curbing borders the outside of the roadways. A triangular splitter island composed of a contrasting pavement texture separates the two lanes of the each roadway from the north, south, and west where they intersect the circular roadway. A triangular splitter island composed of two solid yellow lines separates the two lanes of the roadway from the east.

White lane-use arrows with combined left-turn and through arrows are marked on the circular roadway at the base of every splitter island. Around the outer edge of the circular roadway, a curved dotted white line is shown intersecting each of the four entering lanes, and no line is shown intersecting each of the four exiting lanes.

On the roadway entering the circular roadway from the south,a sign assembly marked "optional" is shown to the right of the roadway facing south. It is shown composed of a diamond-shaped yellow roundabout symbol sign mounted above a horizontal rectangular yellow plaque with the words "7th Ave."Farther north and opposite the splitter island, another sign assembly marked"optional" is shown to the right of the roadway facing south. It is shown composed of a diamond-shaped fluorescent yellow-green walking person symbol sign mounted above a horizontal rectangular fluorescent yellow-green plaque with a diagonal arrow pointing down and to the left. Just beyond this sign assembly, a crosswalk composed of a row of closely spaced white lines parallel to the flow of traffic is shown crossing both lanes and the narrow part of the splitter island. On the left side of the roadway, another sign assembly marked "optional" is shown facing north. It is composed of diamond-shaped fluorescent yellow-green walking person symbol sign mounted above a horizontal rectangular fluorescent yellow-green plaque with a diagonal arrow pointing down and to the left. North of the crosswalk, a yield line of white triangles is marked on the pavement across the lane of traffic entering the circular roadway in advance of the dotted white line. A sign assembly is shown facing south to the right of the roadway adjacent to the YIELD line. It is composed of a YIELD sign mounted above a square white sign with a black roundabout symbol.

On the roadway entering the circular roadway from the east,a crosswalk composed of a row of closely spaced white lines parallel to the flow of traffic is shown crossing both lanes and the narrow part of the splitter island formed by solid yellow lines. A solid white curved line is shown at the broad end of the triangle, joining the curved dotted white line that intersects the entering lane.

On the roadways entering the circular roadway from the north and west, a crosswalk composed of a row of closely spaced white lines parallel to the flow of traffic is shown crossing both lanes and the narrow part of the splitter island composed of a contrasting pavement texture.
