Dear Mr. Benson:

This letter is to advise the New York City Department of Transportation that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is terminating Official Experiment "9-79(E) — New York City Green Bicycle Lane Markings." The termination of the Experiment absolves the City of its requirements to collect data and submit semi-annual progress reports to the FHWA in accordance with the Items G and I of Paragraph 11 in Section 1A.10 of the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD).

The City may continue to use the green colored pavement through the FHWA agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation numbered "IA-14.1 — Green Colored Pavement for Bike Lanes — New York Statewide" providing that the City complies with the Conditions of Interim Approval located at the following webpage:

http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/interim_approval/ia14/index.htm

In accordance with Paragraph 20 of Section 1A.10 in the MUTCD, please compile and furnish a list of locations to the State where green colored pavement is used for marked bicycle lanes within the City. The State Official that supervises the IA-14.1 agreement with the FHWA is:

Todd B. Westhuis, P.E.
Acting Director, Office of Traffic Safety and Mobility
New York State Department of Transportation
