2009 Edition Part 2 Figure 2B-15. ONE WAY Signing for Divided Highways with Medians of 30 Feet or Wider
Figure 2B-15. ONE WAY Signing for Divided Highways with Medians of 30 Feet or Wider
This figure shows ONE WAY signing for divided highways that have medians of 30 feet or wider.
The figure shows a vertical two-lane roadway intersecting a horizontal highway with two eastbound lanes, a median, and two westbound lanes. A legend shows a black arrow indicating the direction of travel in the lanes, one asterisk indicating optional use, and two asterisks indicated optional if the divided highway has an AADT of less than 400 and a speed limit of 25 mph or less. Notes at the bottom of the figure state: "If a YIELD sign is used, the appropriate pavement marking would be a yield line (see Section 3B.16) rather than a stop line. See Figure 2B-12 for examples of placing DO NOT ENTER and WRONG WAY signing."
The vertical two-lane roadway is shown with a solid double yellow line dividing the two lanes, except through the intersections, and solid white stop lines across the approach lane on each side of the intersections with the divided highway lanes. Black arrows show that the direction of travel is one way in each direction on the vertical roadway.
The horizontal highway is composed of two through lanes and a left-turn lane in each direction. A solid white line is shown marked on the right edge of each side of the highway. A solid yellow line is shown marked on the left edge of each side of the highway next to the median. A broken white line is shown separating the two eastbound through lanes as well as the two westbound through lanes. The left-turn lane is shown divided from the same direction through lanes by a solid white line and from the median by a solid yellow line. A white arrow curving up and to the left is shown marked on the pavement of each left-turn lane. Black arrows show that the direction of travel is one way west to east in the bottom two lanes and east to west in the upper two lanes.
At the bottom of the figure and in advance of the intersection with the eastbound lanes, a sign assembly is shown to the right of the northbound lane. It is composed of a ONE WAY sign pointing east (to the right) above a STOP sign and a Divided Highway Crossing sign, with two asterisks to its right. These signs are shown facing south. A second ONE WAY sign pointing east (to the left) is shown mounted back-to-back with the first one and facing north. On the far side of the eastbound lanes, a ONE WAY sign pointing east (to the right) is shown to the right of the northbound lane. An asterisk indicating "optional" is shown next to it.
In advance of the intersection with the westbound lanes, another sign assembly is shown to the right of the northbound travel lane. It is shown as a ONE WAY sign pointing west (to the left) above a STOP sign to the left of the word "OR" to the left of a YIELD sign and facing south. A second ONE WAY sign pointing west (to the right) is shown mounted back-to-back with the first one and facing north.
On the far side of the westbound lanes, a sign is shown to the right of the northbound travel lane. It is shown as a ONE WAY sign pointing west (to the left) and facing south, with an asterisk indicating"optional" to its right.
The same series of ONE WAY,STOP, Divided Highway Crossing, and YIELD signs is shown for the southbound lanes of the vertical roadway.
