Figure 6F-7. Channelizing Devices (Sheet 2 of 2)
Sheet 2 shows four types of barricades. A double asterisk accompanies the labels for all four types, and a note indicates that the double asterisk indicates: "Rail stripe widths shall be 150 mm (6 in), except that 100 mm (4 in) wide stripes may be used if rail lengths are less than 900 mm (35 in). The sides of barricades facing traffic shall have retroreflective rail faces."
The first barricade is labeled "Type I Barricade." It is shown as one horizontal rectangular rail with a width shown as a dimension of "600 mm (24 in) MIN." and a height shown as a dimension of "200 to 300 mm (8 to 12 in)." The distance from the top of the panel (rail) to the ground surface is shown as a dimension of "900 mm (36 in) MIN." The rail is shown covered with alternating white and orange diagonal stripes that run from top right to bottom left at a 45-degree angle. A yellow circle on a white rectangular base is shown above the top-left corner of the rail and is accompanied by an asterisk. A note indicates that the asterisk means "Warning Lights (optional)."
The second barricade is labeled "Type II Barricade." It is shown as composed of two horizontal rectangular rails parallel to each other and one directly above the other. Each rail is shown with a width shown as a dimension of "600 mm (24 in) MIN." and a height shown as a dimension of "200 to 300 mm (8 to 12 in)." The distance from the top of the upper panel (rail) to the ground surface is shown as a dimension of "900 mm (36 in) MIN." The rail is shown covered with alternating white and orange diagonal stripes that run from top right to bottom left at a 45-degree angle. A yellow circle on a white rectangular base is shown above the top-left corner of the rail and is accompanied by an asterisk. A note indicates that the asterisk means "Warning Lights (optional)."
The third barricade is labeled "Type III Barricade." It is shown composed of three horizontal rectangular rails parallel to each other and one directly above the other. Each rail is shown with a width shown as a dimension of "1.2 m (4 ft)" and a height shown as a dimension of "200 to 300 mm (8 to 12 in)." The distance from the top of the topmost panel to the ground surface is shown as a dimension of "1.5 m (5 ft) MIN." The rail is shown covered with alternating white and orange diagonal stripes that run from top right to bottom left at a 45-degree angle. A yellow circle on a white rectangular base is shown above the top-left corner of the rail and is accompanied by an asterisk. A note indicates that the asterisk means "Warning Lights (optional)."
The fourth barricade is labeled "Direction Indicator Barricade." It is shown as composed of a horizontal rectangular sign with a large black horizontal left-pointing arrow and black border on an orange background mounted above a horizontal rectangular-shaped panel with alternating diagonal orange and white stripes. The sign with the horizontal arrow is shown with a width of 600 mm (24 in) and a height of 300 mm (12 in). The striped panel is shown covered with alternating white and orange diagonal stripes that run from top right to bottom left at a 45-degree angle. It is shown with a width of 600 mm (24 in) and height of 200 mm (8 in). The distance from the top of the sign with the horizontal arrow to the ground surface is shown as a dimension of "900 mm (36 in)."
A note at the bottom of Sheet 2 states: "If drums, cones, or tubular markers are used to channelize pedestrians, they shall be located such that there are no gaps between the bases of the devices, in order to create a continuous bottom, and the height of each individual drum, cone, or tubular marker shall be no less than 900 mm (36 in) to be detectable to users of long canes."
