Figure 10C-6. Examples of Highway-Light Rail Transit Grade Crossing Pavement Markings

This figure illustrates two examples of highway-light rail transit grade crossing pavement markings.

A note states "Refer to Figure 10C-5 for placement."

The first example shows Highway-Light Rail Transit grade crossing alternative (narrow) pavement markings. It shows a vertical section of one lane of a roadway. A solid yellow line is shown to the left of the lane, with a broken yellow line to the left of it in the opposing lane. At the bottom of the roadway section, a white transverse line is shown that extends across the entire lane. It is shown as a dimension of 600 mm (24 in) wide. Beyond it, two white "R's" are shown marked on the pavement. The width of the two together is shown as a dimension of 1 m (3.3 ft). At a dimensioned distance shown as 0.5 m (1.6 ft) beyond the "R's," a white "X" is shown marked on the pavement in the center of the lane. The distance from the outside edge of the white stop line to the bottom of the "X" is shown as a dimension of 7 m (23 ft). The lines forming the "X" are shown as a dimension of 400 mm (16 in) thick. The overall width of the "X" is shown as a dimension of 2 m (6.6 ft). The height of the "X" is shown as a dimension of 6.1 m (20 ft). At the top of the roadway section and beyond the "X," another white transverse line is shown. The distance from the far edge of one transverse line to the far edge of the other is shown as a dimensioned distance of 18 m (60 ft). The distance from the top edge of the "X" to the far edge of the second transverse line is shown as a dimension of 4.9 m (16 ft).

The second example shows Highway-Light Rail Transit grade crossing pavement markings. It shows a smaller vertical section of one lane of a roadway. A solid yellow line is shown at the left of the lane, with a broken yellow line to the left of it in the opposing lane. In the center of the lane, a white "X" is shown with a white "R" on each side of it marked on the pavement. A vertical dashed black line is shown marked on the pavement, bisecting the "X," and is labeled "Center of lane." The lines forming the "X" are shown as a dimension of 400 mm (16 in) thick. The overall height of the "X" is shown as a dimension of 6.1 m (20 ft). The height of each "R" is shown as a dimension of 1.8 m (6 ft). The overall width of the "X," including the "R's," is shown as a dimension of 2.4 m (8 ft) and noted "Width may vary according to lane width."
