Figure 2H-3. Height and Lateral Position of Signs Located Within Recreational and Cultural Interest Areas

This figure illustrates height and lateral positions of signs located within recreational and cultural interest areas. Four sign assemblies are shown as square brown symbol signs with white borders and symbols and horizontal rectangular arrow signs with white borders and arrows on a brown background.

The first sign assembly is labeled "Roadside Assembly Business or Residence District." An amphitheater symbol sign is shown mounted above a right-pointing horizontal arrow sign. The sign assembly is shown placed to the right of a roadway with a curb. The distance from the inside of the curb to the nearest edge of the sign assembly is shown as a dimension of not less than 0.6 m (2 ft). The distance from the bottom edge of the sign assembly to the ground is shown as a dimension of not less than 2.1 m (7 ft).

The second sign assembly is labeled "Roadside Assembly Rural District." Two symbol signs are shown mounted next to each other horizontally with associated directional arrow signs. On the left, a trailer symbol sign is mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign, and on the right a camping symbol sign is mounted above a vertical upward-pointing arrow sign. The sign assembly is shown placed to the right of a roadway with a paved shoulder but no curb. The distance from the outside edge of the paved shoulder to the nearest edge of the sign assembly is shown as a dimension of not less than 1.8 m (6 ft). The distance from the bottom edge of the sign assembly to the elevation of the roadway at the outside edge of the paved shoulder is shown as a dimension of not less than 1.5 m (5 ft).

The third sign assembly is labeled "Roadside Assembly Business or Residence District." Three symbol signs are shown mounted together in a triangular pattern, with associated directional arrow signs. On the top of the assembly, a sailboat symbol sign is mounted above an upward-pointing vertical arrow sign. Below and to the left, a launch ramp symbol sign is shown mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign. To the right of that, a rowboating symbol sign is shown mounted above a right-pointing horizontal arrow sign. The sign assembly is shown placed to the right of a roadway with a curb. The distance from the inside of the curb to the nearest edge of the sign assembly is shown as a dimension of not less than 0.6 m 2 ft). The distance from the bottom edge of the sign assembly to the ground surface is shown as a dimension of not less than 2.1 m (7 ft).

The fourth sign assembly is labeled "Roadside Assembly Rural District." Four symbol signs are mounted together in a square pattern with associated directional arrow signs. At the top left of the assembly, a sledding symbol sign is shown mounted above an upward-pointing vertical arrow sign. At the bottom left of the assembly, an ice skating symbol sign is shown mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign. At the top right of the assembly, a snowmobiling symbol sign is shown mounted above an upward-pointing vertical arrow sign. At the bottom right of the assembly, a ski jumping symbol sign is shown mounted above a right-pointing horizontal arrow sign. The sign assembly is shown placed to the right of a roadway with a paved shoulder but no curb. The distance from the outside edge of the paved shoulder to the nearest edge of the sign assembly is shown as a dimension of not less than 1.8 m (6 ft). The distance from the bottom edge of the sign assembly to the ground surface below the center of the assembly is shown as a dimension of not less than 1.5 m (5 ft).

A note at the bottom of the figure states "See Section 2A.19 for reduced lateral offset distances that may be used in areas where lateral offsets are limited, and in urban areas where sidewalk width is limited or where existing poles are close to the curb."
