Figure 2B-15. Examples of One Way Signing for Divided Highways with Medians Less Than 9 m (30 ft) and Separated Left-Turn Lanes
This figure shows examples of one way signing for divided highways with medians less than 9 meters (30 feet) and separated left-turn lanes.
The figure shows a vertical two-lane roadway intersecting a horizontal highway with two eastbound lanes, a median, and two westbound lanes. A legend shows an asterisk indicating optional use and a black arrow indicating the direction of travel in the lanes. Notes at the bottom of the figure state "All signs shown are optional except the STOP signs." and "See Figure 2B-10 for examples of placing DO NOT ENTER and WRONG WAY signing."
The vertical two-lane roadway is shown with a solid double yellow line dividing the two lanes, except through the intersections, and solid white stop lines across the approach lane on each side of the intersections with the divided highway lanes. Black arrows show that the direction of travel is two way on the vertical roadway. All signs except the Stop signs are shown with an asterisk to their right.
The horizontal highway is composed of two through lanes and a left-turn lane in each direction. A solid white line is shown marked on the right edge of each side of the highway. A solid yellow line is shown marked on the left edge of each side of the highway next to the median. A broken white line is shown separating the two eastbound through lanes as well as the two westbound through lanes. The left-turn lane is shown divided from the median by a solid yellow line. The left-turn lane is shown divided from the same direction through lanes by an island formed by white chevrons pointing toward approaching left-turn traffic. The island begins as a taper and becomes a rounded rectangular shape. Black arrows show that the direction of travel is one way west to east in the bottom two lanes and east to west in the upper two lanes.
At the bottom of the page, an illustration is labeled "Typical Mounting." It is shown as a right-pointing One Way sign above a Stop sign and a Divided Highway Crossing sign.
At the bottom of the figure and in advance of the intersection with the eastbound lanes, a sign assembly is shown to the right of the northbound travel lane. It is shown as a One Way sign pointing east (to the right) above a Stop sign and a Divided Highway Crossing sign. These signs are shown facing south. A second One Way sign pointing east (to the left) is shown mounted back-to-back with the first one and facing north.
On the far side of the eastbound lanes and on the median, a Keep Right symbol sign is shown with a reverse curve arrow to the right of a downward facing bullet shape. It is shown at a 45-degree angle on the median and facing northwest.
On the far side of the westbound lanes, a sign is shown to the right of the northbound travel lane. It is shown as a One Way sign pointing west (to the left) and facing south.
The same series of One Way, Stop, Divided Highway Crossing, and Keep Right symbol signs are shown for the southbound lanes of the vertical roadway.
