Figure 6H-22. Right Lane Closure on Far Side of Intersection (TA-22)

This figure illustrates right lane closure on the far side of an intersection. A legend under the figure states that this is Typical Application 22. A note states "Note: See Tables 6H-2 and 6H-3 for the meaning of the symbols and/or letter codes used in this figure."

This figure shows a vertical four-lane roadway intersecting a horizontal two-lane roadway. Black arrows on the vertical roadway indicate that traffic in the two left lanes is southbound and the traffic in the two right lanes is northbound. Black arrows indicate that the direction of traffic on the horizontal roadway is one lane in each direction. A solid double yellow line is shown separating the opposing lanes on both roadways. A broken white line is shown separating the lanes on the vertical roadway. Solid white lines are shown extending across the lanes just in advance of the intersection. On each approach, the solid double yellow lines is shown ending at the white lines.

At the bottom of the figure and to the right of the northbound lanes, a black inverted "T" is shown denoting a sign. The sign is shown as a diamond-shaped orange sign with a black border and the words "ROAD WORK AHEAD" in black. This sign is shown at a dimensioned distance B in advance of another sign to the right of the roadway. This is shown as a diamond-shaped orange sign with a black border and the words "THRU TRAFFIC MERGE LEFT" in black. This sign is shown at a dimensioned distance A in advance of the intersection with the horizontal roadway. About half way to the intersection on the northbound lanes, a square white sign with a black border is shown to the right of the roadway with the words "RIGHT LANE MUST TURN RIGHT" in black. Another identical sign is shown at the intersection adjacent to the white stop line.

On the far side of the intersection with the horizontal roadway and in the right lane, a horizontal rectangular black arrow panel with a left-pointing yellow arrow is shown in front of an orange and white diagonally striped Type III barricade. The barricade is shown directly in front of a vertical rectangular black and white diagonally striped box, denoting a work space, that is the width of the right lane. It is shown surrounded on the left, right, and back by a series of orange squares, denoting channelizing devices. The devices are also shown directly in front of the barricade and extend to the right for a short distance along the north side of the horizontal roadway. Beyond the work space, a horizontal rectangular orange sign with a black border is shown with the words "END ROAD WORK" in black. The sign is labeled optional.

At the top of the figure and to the right of the southbound lanes on the vertical roadway, a Road Work Ahead sign is shown. It is labeled optional and is shown at a dimensioned distance A in advance of the northern limit of the work space in the northbound lane. On the south side of the intersection, an End Road Work sign labeled optional is shown to the right of the roadway.

On the horizontal roadway to the right of the intersection, another End Road Work sign labeled optional is shown on the south side of the roadway. On the north side of the roadway, a Road Work Ahead sign is shown at a dimensioned distance A in advance of the intersection. On the west side of the intersection, an End Road Work sign labeled optional is shown on the north side of the roadway. On the south side of the roadway, a Road Work Ahead sign is shown facing eastbound traffic. It is shown at a dimensioned distance A in advance of the intersection.
