This figure illustrates three examples of applications of jughandle regulatory and guide signing on three sheets: turns made prior to the intersection, a traditional jughandle, and turns made beyond the intersection.
Sheet 3 illustrates turns made beyond the intersection. It shows a segment of a vertical five-lane divided highway intersecting a horizontal roadway, labeled "Ryan Rd." on the left and "Symmes Dr." to the right. Black arrows on the vertical roadway indicate that the direction of travel in the three left lanes is southbound and in the two right lanes, it is northbound. Broken white lines are shown separating the lanes on the vertical highway. A solid white line is shown extending across the two northbound lanes and the deceleration lane at the intersection with the horizontal roadway. A solid white line also is shown extending across the three southbound lanes at the intersection with the horizontal roadway. Black inverted Ts denote signs.
Near the bottom of the figure, a deceleration lane tapers to the right of the northbound lanes. The deceleration lane runs parallel to the right lane and is separated from it by a dotted white line that changes to a solid white line. The lane continues across the horizontal roadway. On the north side of the roadway, the solid white line separating the deceleration lane from the right lane splits in two to form a long V-shaped island with forward-pointing white chevron markings on the pavement. The exit ramp curves to the right and down in circular pattern to join the right side of the horizontal roadway (Symmes Drive).
At the bottom of the figure, a sign is shown to the right of the northbound lanes. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular green sign with a white border and legend with the words "Symmes Dr Ryan Rd KEEP RIGHT"on three lines.
At the point where the taper into the deceleration lane begins, a sign is shown to the right of the deceleration lane. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular white sign with a black border and legend with the words "ALL TURNS FROM RIGHTLANE" on three lines.
At the white stop line at the intersection with the horizontal roadway, a sign assembly is shown to the right of the deceleration lane It is composed of a horizontal rectangular green sign with a white border and legend divided in half horizontally by a white line. Above the dividing line, a short horizontal arrow pointing up is shown to the left of the words"Ryan Rd."Below the dividing line, the words "Symmes Dr" are shown to the left of a short horizontal arrow pointing to the right. This sign is shown mounted above a horizontal rectangular white plaque with a black border and legend. The words "U AND LEFT TURNS" are shown on two lines to the left of a vertical arrow pointing up.
On the north side of the horizontal roadway, at the far edge of the island, a sign assembly is shown between the northbound lanes and the exit ramp. It is composed of a horizontal rectangular green sign with a while border and legend and the words "Ryan Rd." to the right of a diagonal arrow pointing up and to the right. Below this sign, a horizontal rectangular white sign with a black border and legend is shown with the words "U AND LEFT TURNS"on two lines to the left of a diagonal arrow pointing up and to the right.
