2009 Edition Part 2 Figure 2E-15. Guide Signs for a Single-Lane Exit to the Left with a Dropped Lane
Figure 2E-15. Guide Signs for a Single-Lane Exit to the Left with a Dropped Lane
This figure shows guide signs for a single-lane exit to the left with a dropped lane.
The figure shows segments of one direction of a vertical highway labeled I-61 and U.S. 56 at the bottom of the figure, depicted with three lanes, with the travel direction from the bottom to the top of the figure. At the bottom of the figure, the lanes are separated from each other by broken white lines. The broken white line between the left and center lanes is then shown changing to a dotted white lane. Further north, this dotted white line is shown changing to a solid white line. Near the top of the figure, the left lane (labeled U.S. 56) is shown curving to the left. The center and right lanes (labeled I-61) are shown continuing straight ahead and are shown separated by broken white lines.
Four horizontal rectangular green signs and sign assemblies with white legends and borders are shown along the highway, as well as two route sign assemblies:
- The first sign assembly is shown near the bottom of the figure where the broken white line between the left and center lanes is shown changing to a dotted white line. This is shown as 1/2 mile south of the second sign. It is shown extending over the left lane. It is shown with the left of the numeral "56" in black on a white U.S. route shield to the left of the word "WEST" on the top line, the word "Lindale" on the second line, the words "1 MILE" on the third line, and a horizontal rectangular yellow panel with a black border and legend on the bottom line. The word "EXIT" is shown to the left of a short downward-pointing vertical black arrow to the left of the word "ONLY" on the yellow panel. A smaller horizontal rectangular green plaque is shown above the top left side of the sign. It shows the word "LEFT" in black on a horizontal rectangular yellow panel on the top line and "EXIT 27" on the bottom line.
- At a point 1/2 mile south of the theoretical gore, the same sign assembly is shown as the first, except the distance is not shown on the third line.
- North of the second sign assembly, the dotted white line is shown changing to a solid white line. At the gore, the third sign assembly is shown extending over the left lane. It is shown as the same as the first, except the distance is not shown on the third line and a short diagonal arrow pointing up and to the left is used instead of a downward-pointing arrow.
- A smaller horizontal rectangular sign is shown on the gore between the lane that curves to the left and the lanes that continue straight ahead. It shows the word "EXIT" on the top line and a short white diagonal arrow pointing up and to the left that is to the left of the numeral "27" on the bottom line.
- At the top of the figure, a sign is shown to the right of the lanes that continue straight. It is shown as a red and blue Interstate route shield on which the white numeral "61" is shown. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "North" in white letters and a white border on a blue background.
