Figure 2E-9. Diagrammatic Guide Signs for a Two-Lane Exit to the Right with an Option Lane (Through Lanes Curve to the Left)

This figure shows diagrammatic guide signs for a two-lane exit to the right with an option lane and through lanes that curve to the left.

The figure shows segments of one direction of a vertical highway labeled I-12 at the bottom of the figure, depicted with three lanes, with the travel direction from the bottom to the top of the figure. At the bottom of the figure, the lanes are separated from each other by broken white lines. The broken white line between the center and right lanes is then shown changing to a dotted wide white lane. Near the top of the figure, the center lane divides, and this lane and the right lane (labeled "Ramp U.S. 40") are shown separated by a solid wide white line and continuing straight ahead. The left lane and part of the center lane (labeled I-12) are shown curving left and are shown separated by broken white lines.

Five horizontal rectangular green signs and sign assemblies with white legends and borders are shown along the highway, as well as two route sign assemblies.

The first sign assembly is shown near the bottom of the figure where the lanes are divided by broken white lines. It is shown extending over all three lanes of the highway. It is shown with a plan view of the exit in the middle of the sign, consisting of a two-headed arrow with the two shafts emanating from a combined base, with one shaft curving up and to the left and the other pointed straight ahead. Each shaft is shown with a dashed black line along the middle of the shaft from the base to the start of the arrowhead.

  • To the left of the plan view, on the top line, the word "EAST" is shown to the left of a red and blue Interstate route shield on which the white numerals "12" are shown, and the words "Los Alma" are shown on the bottom line.
  • To the right of the plan view, on the top line, a white U.S. route shield is shown on which the black numerals "40" are shown to the left of the word "EAST," the word "Stanley" is shown on the middle line, and the words "1 MILE" are shown on the bottom line.
  • A smaller horizontal rectangular green plaque is shown above the top right side of the sign. It shows the words "EXIT 112."

Just north of the first sign assembly, the broken white line between the center and right lanes is shown changing to a wide dotted white line. The same sign assembly is shown further north on the highway beyond this point. The sign assembly is the same as the first, except without the distance on the third line of the sign.

North of the second sign assembly, the dotted wide white line between the center and right lanes is shown changing to a solid wide white line. At the theoretical gore, a sign assembly is shown located over the highway. The assembly consists of two signs in a horizontal array:

  • The left sign is shown located above the lane line that separates the left and center lanes. It shows, on the top line, the word "EAST" to the left of a red and blue Interstate route shield on which the white numerals "12" are shown, the words "Los Alma" on the middle line, and two short diagonal white arrows pointing up and to the left on the bottom line.
  • The right sign is shown located above the lane line that separates the center and right lanes. It shows, on the top line, a white U.S. route shield on which the black numerals "40" are shown to the left of the word "EAST," the word "Stanley" on the middle line, and a horizontal rectangular yellow panel with a black border and legend on the bottom line. A short downward-pointing vertical black arrow is shown to the left of the words "EXIT ONLY" to the left of another short downward-pointing vertical black arrow on the yellow panel.
  • A smaller horizontal rectangular green plaque is shown above the top right side of the sign. It shows the words "EXIT 112."

A smaller horizontal rectangular sign is shown on the gore between the lanes that curve to the left and the lanes that continue straight ahead. It shows the word "EXIT" on the top line and the numerals "112" to the left of a white diagonal arrow with a short shaft pointing up and to the right on the bottom line.

At the top of the figure, a sign is shown to the right of the lanes that curve to the left. It is shown as a red and blue Interstate route shield on which the white numerals "12" are shown. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "EAST" in white letters and a white border on a blue background. A sign is shown to the right of the lanes that continue straight. It is a vertical rectangular black sign with a white U.S. route shield on which the black numerals "40" are shown. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "TO" in black letters and a black border on a white background, above another plaque with the word "WEST" in black letters and a black border on a white background. Below the U.S. route shield is shown a plaque with a black upward-pointing arrow with a short vertical shaft and a black border on a white background.
