Figure 2F-11. Examples of Guide Signs for a Mainline Toll Plaza on a Diverging Alignment from Open-Road ETC Lanes
This figure shows examples of guide signs for a mainline toll plaza on a diverging alignment from open-road ETC lanes.
The figure shows one direction of a vertical highway depicted with three lanes separated by a broken white line, with the travel direction from the bottom to the top of the figure. In the middle of the figure, the three lanes are shown widening to four lanes. The lanes then split, with the two leftmost lanes continuing straight and the two rightmost lanes curving to the right. After the split, an open road electronic toll collection point is depicted as a horizontal black bar over the leftmost lanes. The two rightmost lanes widen to four lanes, and four toll booths are shown between the lanes. Eight overhead green guide signs with white borders and legends are shown located over the highway from the bottom to the top of the figure:
- The first and second signs are shown in a horizontal array at the bottom of the figure. The first sign is shown located over the two leftmost lanes. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular sign with a Toll Pass logo on a horizontal purple rectangle with a white border on the first line, the word "ONLY" in black on a horizontal white rectangle on the second line and two short downward-pointing vertical white arrows on the third line. The second sign is shown located over the right lane. It is shown as a square sign with a yellow plaque with a black border and legend on the top third of the sign. The words "PAY TOLL 1 MILE CARS 75¢" are shown on three lines on the plaque. On the body of the sign, the words "CASH – CHANGE RECEIPTS" are shown on two lines above a short downward-pointing vertical white arrow.
- The third and fourth signs are shown in a horizontal array just beyond the point where the three lanes widen four lanes. The third sign is shown located over the two leftmost lanes. It is shown as the same guide sign with Toll Pass logo as the first sign. The fourth sign is shown located over the two rightmost lanes. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular green sign with a white border and legend. It is divided into two vertical sections by a vertical white line. A horizontal rectangular yellow plaque with a black border and legend is shown at the top of the sign, spanning both sections. It shows the words "PAY TOLL 1/2 MILE" with a large numeral "1/2." The left section of the sign shows a square M4-18 exact change symbol to the left of the words "EXACT CHANGE 75¢" on three lines above the words "CARS ONLY NO TRAILERS" on two lines on a horizontal white rectangle, which is above a short downward-pointing vertical white arrow. The right section of the sign shows a square M4-17 toll collector symbol on the top line, the words "CASH – CHANGE" on the second line, the word "RECEIPTS" on the third line, and a short downward-pointing vertical white arrow on the bottom line.
- The fifth and sixth signs are shown in a horizontal array at the point where the four lanes split, with two going straight ahead and two angling to the right. The fifth sign is shown located over the two leftmost lanes. It is shown as the same guide sign with Toll Pass logo as the first sign. The sixth sign is shown located over the two rightmost lanes. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular green sign with a white border and legend. It is divided into two vertical sections by a vertical white line. A horizontal rectangular yellow plaque with a black border and legend is shown at the top of the sign, spanning both sections. It shows the words "STOP AHEAD - PAY TOLL." The left section of the sign shows a square M4-18 exact change symbol to the left of the words "EXACT CHANGE 75¢" on three lines above the words "CARS ONLY NO TRAILERS" on two lines on a horizontal white rectangle, which is above a short diagonal white arrow pointing up and to the right. - The seventh and eighth signs are shown in a horizontal array over the two rightmost lanes beyond the split and in advance of the toll booths. The seventh sign is shown located over the left lane going to the toll booths. It is shown as a horizontal rectangular green sign with a white border and legend. It shows a square M4-18 exact change symbol to the left of the words "EXACT CHANGE 75¢" on three lines above the words "CARS ONLY NO TRAILERS" on two lines on a horizontal white rectangle, which is above the words "LEFT LANES" in white.
