Figure 9B-5. Example of Signing for the Beginning and End of a Designated Bicycle Route on a Shared-Use Path
This figure illustrates an example of signing for the beginning and end of a designated bicycle route on a shared-use path.
The figure shows an inverted T-shaped intersection composed of a horizontal two-lane two-way roadway and a vertical shared-use path that intersects the roadway at a 90-degree angle from the top of the figure.
The horizontal roadway is shown with two lanes separated with a broken yellow line. On the roadway to the left of the intersection with the path, a W11-1 bicycle symbol sign is shown that is labeled "optional." It is shown to the right of the roadway and faces eastbound traffic. A note states that the distance to this sign assembly from the near edge of the intersection "Varies—see Section 9B.18." Beyond it and just in advance of the near edge of the intersection, a sign assembly is shown facing eastbound traffic composed of a D11-1 Bike Route sign mounted above a D1-1 plaque with a horizontal arrow pointing to the left and the words "CITY PARK." On the roadway to the right of the intersection, another W11-1 sign is shown that is labeled "optional." It is to the right of the roadway and faces westbound traffic. A note states that the distance between this sign assembly and the near edge of the intersection "Varies—see Section 9B.18." Beyond it and closer to the intersection, a sign assembly is shown facing westbound traffic composed of a D11-1 sign mounted above a D1-1 plaque with the words "CITY PARK" and horizontal arrow pointing to the right.
At the northeast corner of the intersection, facing northbound traffic entering the shared-use path, an R5-3 sign is shown to the right of the vertical shared-use path with the words "NO MOTOR VEHICLES" on three lines. Beyond this sign, a sign assembly is shown to the right of the vertical path at a dimensioned distance of 100 ft. It is composed of a D11-1 sign above a D1-1S plaque with a vertical arrow pointing up and the words " CITY PARK."
On the vertical shared-use path, a sign assembly is shown to the right of the path facing southbound path traffic approaching the intersection. It is composed of an M4-6 plaque with the word "END" mounted above a D11-1 sign shown as a dimensioned distance of 100 ft in advance of the intersection. At the intersection, facing southbound path traffic, an R1-1 Stop sign is shown to the right of the path opposite a white stop line shown on the path.
