2009 Edition Part 2 Figure 2D-13. Examples of Multi-Lane Crossroad Signing for a Diamond Interchange
Figure 2D-13. Examples of Multi-Lane Crossroad Signing for a Diamond Interchange
This figure shows examples of multi-lane crossroad signing for a diamond interchange.
The figure shows segments of two multi-lane highways, an unnamed highway running vertically and I-18 running horizontally. The interchange between the two is shown as a diamond-shaped ramp configuration. At the top right of the figure, a black capital letter "N" is shown superimposed on an up-pointing horizontal black arrow, denoting the compass direction.
A series of seven signs and sign assemblies are shown for one direction of travel along the vertical highway from the bottom to the top of the figure. Except as otherwise noted, all signs and sign assemblies are horizontal rectangular green signs with white borders and lettering. They are shown to the right of the highway, unless otherwise noted.
The figure shows seven signs on the vertical highway:
- At the bottom of the figure, a pair of signs are shown separated by the word "OR." The left sign is shown as a red and blue Interstate shield for I-18. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "JCT" in white letters and a white border on a blue background. The right sign is shown as a horizontal rectangular sign with the word "JUNCTION" on the top line and the Interstate shield for I-18 on the bottom line.
- The second sign is shown farther north. It shows the Interstate shield for I-18 to the left of the word "EAST" on the top line, the word "Eatontown" on the middle line, and the words "KEEP RIGHT" on the bottom line.
- The third sign is shown just beyond the second sign with the same I-18 shield on the top line to the left of the word "WEST" on the top line, the word "Morganville" on the middle line, and the words "KEEP LEFT" on the bottom line. To the right of the second and third sign is the word "OR" and another sign. It is shown with the words "WEST KEEP LEFT" on three lines to the left of an I-18 shield above a vertical white line. To the right of the vertical line, the words "EAST KEEP RIGHT" are shown.
- Just prior to the right entrance ramp to I-18, the fourth sign is shown separated from another sign by the word "OR." The fourth sign is shown with an upward-pointing arrow, an Interstate shield for I-18, and the word "WEST" on the top line and the word "Morganville" on the next line above a horizontal white dividing line. Under the line, the I-18 shield is shown to the left of the word "EAST" to the left of a right-pointing arrow on the top line, and the word "Eatontown" is shown on the bottom line. The sign to the right shows the word "OVERHEAD" above it. The sign is shown superimposed on two horizontal black lines connected to a short vertical black line on the right. The sign shows an Interstate shield for I-18 to the left of the word "EAST" on the top line, the word "Eatontown" on the second line, and a right-pointing arrow on the bottom line.
- Midway between the right entrance ramp and the point where the vertical highway crosses over I-18 (which is the lower right branch of the diamond), the fifth sign assembly is shown separated from another sign by the word "OR." The fifth sign assembly is shown as a red and blue Interstate shield for I-18. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "WEST" in white letters and a white border on a blue background. Below it, a plaque is shown with a right angle arrow pointing up and to the left. The sign to the right shows the word "OVERHEAD" above it. The sign is shown superimposed on two horizontal black lines connected to a short vertical black line on the right. The sign shows an Interstate shield for I-18 to the left of the word "WEST" on the top line, the word "Morganville" on the second line, and the words "NEXT LEFT" on the bottom line.
- Near the top of the figure, the sixth sign is shown just prior to the right exit ramp from I-18 (which is the upper right branch of the diamond). A horizontal arrow pointing to the left is shown to the left of an Interstate shield for I-18 to the left of the word "WEST" on the top line. The word "Morganville" is shown on the bottom line.
- The seventh sign assembly is shown at the top of the figure opposite the sixth sign. It is above the entrance ramp to westbound I-18 and to the left of the vertical highway and is shown facing traffic moving from the bottom to the top on the vertical highway. The sign assembly is shown as a red and blue Interstate shield for I-18 with a plaque above it with the word "WEST" in white letters and a white border on a blue background. Below it, a plaque is shown with a left-pointing horizontal arrow.
