This figure illustrates an example of closure in the center of an intersection. A legend under the figure states that this is Typical Application 26. A note states "Note: See Tables 6H-2 and 6H-3 for the meaning of the symbols and/or letter codes used in this figure."
This figure shows a vertical two-lane roadway intersecting a horizontal two-lane roadway. Black arrows indicate that the direction of travel is one lane in each direction for both roadways. The opposing lanes on both roadways are shown separated by a solid double yellow line.
At the bottom of the figure and to the right of the northbound lane, a black inverted "T" is shown denoting a sign. The sign is shown as a diamond-shaped orange sign with a black border and the words "ROAD WORK AHEAD" in black. This sign is shown at a dimensioned distance A in advance of a series of orange squares, denoting channelizing devices. The channelizing devices are shown beginning on the solid double yellow line and tapering to the right to the middle of the lane for a dimensioned distance ½ L. The devices are shown at a dimensioned distance of 3 m (10 ft) MIN. from the right side of the roadway. Beyond the intersection, a horizontal rectangular orange sign with a black border is shown to the right of the roadway facing northbound traffic with the words "END ROAD WORK" in black. The other three directions of travel are shown as identical to the northbound roadway. Directly in the middle of the intersection, a horizontal rectangle with diagonal black and white stripes is shown, denoting a work space. On each side of the work space, two orange and white diagonally striped Type III barricades are shown. Orange flag trees identified by a small black circle and labeled optional are shown placed between the barricades and the work space in all four directions.
